Sulutgo Electricity System: Surplus for 70 MW

MANADO – The operation of several power plants, including the operation of Marine Vessel Power Plant ( MVPP) Zeynep Sultan increase the generator capability to 395 MW or exceed for 70 MW from the total of Sulutgo electricity system, approximately reach for 325 MW. “After the deficit period, we successfully meet the lack of electricity supply by the operation of two new power plants: MVPP and PLTG Gorontalo Peaker. We have adequate power plant supply reserves, so PLN is ready to assist the Regional Government of both provinces in encouraging economic growth. The electricity supply could also fulfill the whole electricity needs of Sulutgo citizens including the new installation demand,” explained the Business Director for Sulawesi and Nusa Tenggara Regional, Machnizon Masri, Sunday (3/20).

The electricity supply addition for Sulutgo electricity system is from the operation of several power plants such as Marine Vessel Power Plant (MVPP) Zeynep Sultan in Amurang, North Sulawesi by having the supply capability for 120 MW and also Gas Engine Power Plant (PLTG) Gorontalo Peaker for 100 MW. The electricity load in Sulutgo electricity system recently reach for 325 MW, while the capability of the recent power plant is 395 MW or load exceed for about 70 MW. The power reserve will be added with the electricity power from PLTG Gorontalo Peaker for 100 MW, so Sulutgo electricity system will have power reserves for 170 MW that is connected into the transmission interconnected system 150 kiloVolt (kV).

Responding the high electricity need of North Sulawesi and Gorontalo citizen, in supporting the Regional Government program, and also in encouraging the economic growth of both provinces, the Government cq. PT PLN (Persero) is always increasing the electricity supply by making sure the availability of electricity supply. The Governor of North Sulawesi, Olly Dondokambey, does appreciate the PLN’s effort in overcoming the electricity problem in the region.

“I do appreciate the PLN’s effort in overcoming the rolling blackout due to the lack of electricity supply from power grid in North Sulawesi. The Provincial Government of North Sulawesi hopes that PLN will participate in succeeding the government programs such as developing investment for productive economic activities and also providing electricity service to reach all un-electrified people,” affirmed Olly Dondokambey. Olly also added that the Regional Government will fully support PLN in developing electricity infrastructures and also assist PLN if any problems happen concerning the electricity infrastructures, so anything could be communicated with the Regional Government to overcome any problems.

The Governor of Gorontalo, Rusli Habibie, also appreciated PLN’s efforts in fulfilling electricity supply in Gorontalo, but he emphasized that the people should also understand if any rolling blackout happens during the generator or distribution transmission maintenance such as transformer or if any natural factors happen. “Even though the electricity supply is in safe condition, we should understand that PLN needs time to conduct electricity infrastructure maintenance. It should be conducted to balance the electricity supply for all the people. The electricity availability in Sulutgo will also interest investors and encourage the economy,” affirmed Rusli Habibie.
