Energy Producing Regions are the Main Priority for Energy Beneficiaries

PRABUMULIH – The Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (EMR), Sudirman Said in the inauguration of City Gas and Energy Infrastructure Project Groundbreaking in Prabumulih City Garden, Monday (3/21) emphasized that any energy producing regions will be the main priorities in receiving energy benefits from the existing local energy resources. According to the Minister Sudirman, the Law 30 2007 on Energy mandates that energy producing regions are prioritized to receive energy from local energy resources.

Sudirman Said confirmed that the city gas infrastructure development is possibly built in any other areas having no close access to energy resources. “Prabumulih, Surabaya, and Tarakan are becoming the priorities because the success of these cities will be followed by the other cities,” affirmed Sudirman Said.

The Governor of South Sumatra, Alex Noerdin also agreed if gas producing regions are prioritized as the main beneficiaries of city gas. “The gas producing regions are prioritized because the location of gas resources will ease the distribution. Besides, the gas producing regions will also face the risk of environmental damage from the exploitation of natural resources, “explained Alex.

Prabumulih is chosen as the pilot project of Domestic City Gas acceleration because of having abundance gas supply and also the support and the commitment from Regional Government: Prabumulih Regional Government and South Sumatra Provincial Government to hasten city gas program. The target will not be realized as long as there is no strong commitment from the Government.

The Minister of EMR does appreciate all stakeholders giving the commitment to hasten the realization of gas infrastructure development. “We surely appreciate the Prabumulih Regional Government and all its officials due to its cooperation and full support in simplifying permit and land procurement, and also to PT Pertamina (Persero) for its commitment in developing the energy infrastructure,” affirmed Sudirman Said.
