Gas-based Power Plants are more Beneficial

GRESIK – The Government is working hard to converse all oil fuels (BBM) power grid by using coal and gas. Converting power grid fuels from BBM to gas will be more beneficial not only because saving the cost but also producing cleaner and more environmentally friendly.

Using oil fuels will produce more pollution for the environment, while using gas, even though fossil-based fuel, but is cleaner and more environmentally friendly and also less pollution, said the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Sudirman Said when visiting Java Bali Grid (PJB) Gresik, Thursday (3/31).

Concerning the production cost, the CEO of PJB, Iwan Agung Firstanta explained that the BBM consumption spend about Rp 2.200 per kw, while gas consumption spend for Rp 1.300 kw or Rp 1.200 per kw. The conversion from BBM to gas saved the cost for Rp 15 trillion last year.

The expensive production cost of BBM power plant encourage the Government and PLN in converting the using of such power plants. “The Government and PLN have committed to decrease power plants using BBM. The percentage of BBM power plant was 22% in 2011 and decreased to 12% in 2014,” confirmed the Director General of Electricity MEMR, Jarman.

“Hopefully the using will decrease to be under 7% in 2016. It means that the BBM consumption is under 6 million kiloliter all over Indonesia, ”continued Jarman. The increasing number of non-BBM power plants such as Coal Power Plant (PLTU), Gas Power Plant (PLTGU) is part of the Government program to decrease BBM-based power plants. (AK)
